At Drupalcon Barcelona I talked about organising next year's Drupalcon in Hungary. Now I have the following dilema: I would like to organise it in Szeged but I'm not sure if the community will favour such a proposal.
Szeged is a beautyful city and I can say that unbiased (well semi-unbiased) because I wasn't born there. It is a big university town and has most of the time a fantastic weather. September/October is especially nice because of the “Indian summer” we enjoy. A lot of sun in the daytime but no overkill heat.
In Szeged a major conference with say 600 Drupal enthusiasts would be something special, it would be a great visibility stunt. In Budapest that's just another conference. It would be a great leverage to get Drupal a privileged place in Szeged university. Did I hear you say “Drupal curriculum”?
Of course it's an extra 2 hours travelling from Budapest to Szeged and it's easier in Budapest to solve the logistics of housing and feeding 600 people. At the rate Drupalcon has been growing, this is probably the last time that it will be possible to host the conference in a smaller city...
What do you think? If we can solve the transportation problem would you like to be at the conference in Szeged? Would you like to see Budapest AND Szeged? You have to pass through anyway, if you want to see Budapest you could easily do so...
