This is the blog of Kristof Van Tomme, biotech/Drupal entrepreneur. I use this blog to post reference materials for talks I give and to announce the networking events I'm involved in. Other things that you will find here are some of my random thoughts on quite a couple of things (see tagcloud on the right).
Guy Kawasaki draws attention to the importance of the sign-up page. He made a list of things you should consider adding to increase your conversion rates.

In England both the Oxford tube and the oxford espress bus services between London and Oxford have free internet access. They even have plugs for your computer so it is definitely worth going by bus instead of by train.
In this week's "economist" there was an interesting article about facebook and the limitations of social networks.
At Drupalcon Barcelona I talked about organising next year's Drupalcon in Hungary. Now I have the following dilema: I would like to organise it in Szeged but I'm not sure if the community will favour such a proposal.
Szeged is a beautyful city and I can say that unbiased (well semi-unbiased) because I wasn't born there. It is a big university town and has most of the time a fantastic weather. September/October is especially nice because of the “Indian summer” we enjoy. A lot of sun in the daytime but no overkill heat.
I did a “How to de-socialise Drupal” presentation on the 6th of October at the Hungarian Drupalcon. In my presentation I went through the steps you can take to make Drupal behave like a brochure site. I also showed how you can you use the installation profile API and wizard to get a head start when making an installation profile. I didn't finalise the installation profile yet, but I will contribute it to the community when ready.
My presentation slides are attached to this post.
On the 25th of October I'm organising the first official XING wine-tasting/networking event at Ezerjo. This time with wines from the Avancsos house from Villány. For a 1000 forint you receive a voucher with which you can take part in the wine tasting that you can later also use to buy wine (value of 1000 forint).
If you sometimes travel long distances by car you should check out the podiobooks at http://www.podiobooks.com . They have a collection of free audiobooks: once you have registered you get an RSS feed for the podcasts you subscribe for. You can then plug these into your favourite podcast downloader. If you go to the book's feed page, you can select the “release” speed of new episodes into your RSS feed. If you are going on a trip you would probably want to release all at once.
On the 25th of October at 16h30, I'm organising the first Drupal user group meeting for Szeged. All IT professionals and enthusiasts interested in open source content management systems are very welcome.
The meeting will start with a Drupal showcase (CCK, views and taxonomy) that I'm giving in the framework of a series of drupal lectures at SZTE, the university of Szeged. After this presentation we will hold a workshop about Drupal in the region.
